In this video, I talk about how important it is to put yourself out there in the world EVEN though you’re always a work in progress!
I go back to 2003 to show the many shifts in my career path and website to reflect how I grew as a creator.
But it’s interesting how perfectionism can creep up on you.
Since my teens, I’ve been boldly experimental in life and career: Always trying new things, testing ideas and learning through doing!
Then, after studying online entrepreneurship & marketing for the last 2.5 years, I’ve been overthinking my next project (building online courses).
This is partly due to some perfectionism around recorded or published work (most of my former projects were LIVE).
And it’s also due to having an exciting vision that is WAY ahead of where you are now…
We are often so eager to get there that we forget to enjoy the present process of learning and growing!
We must accept that there is a magical arc to the vision – a series of efforts, experiments and mistakes that must be undertaken before we arrive.
Seeing myself get bogged down with the vision and the perfectionism was very enlightening and humbling.
So I am now returning to my roots of Evolution Through Experimentation and sharing more behind-the-scenes stuff of what I’m exploring!
I want to have fun again AND show how imperfections, failures and mistakes are as useful as successes!!!
As my friend Vanessa LeBourdais said on my Facebook thread (when I asked for title suggestions for this video): “Done Is Better Than Perfect”.
Done is BETTER than perfect because when you get something out there, even imperfectly, you learn a lot! You acquire more skills, discernment and feedback than if you simply kept the vision in your head.
A vision kept in the head flutters around and around like a mad bird. It is a caged idea that never finds its wings. Only if you release it, will it have a chance to learn how to fly.
